We are pleased to announce a new, wide-ranging programme of public talks and guided walks for the year ahead, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to explore some of Oxford’s most important natural landscapes and historic habitats, while hearing directly from the experts that care for them.

Running from May through September, the series brings together leading researchers, conservationists and land managers to share insights into woodlands, meadows, wetlands and urban green spaces. The events are organised by the Oxford Green Estate team in partnership with community groups, resident associations and the University’s Sustainability department.

The programme opens in early May with an event about Wytham Woods Ecology, led by Dr Keith Kirby, on Wednesday 6 May. This afternoon walk will explore over 7,000 years of woodland history in what is often considered the most researched woodland in the world.

During this week, visitors will also have the opportunity to experience wildlife after dark, where evening badger watches on 6 and 7 May will offer a rare chance to observe these elusive mammals.

Other highlights in May include a guided walk at Court Place Gardens, a special Legacy Talk at Wytham Sawmill Barn, an exploration of the ancient Wytham Fens, and a detailed look at Park Farm’s meadow restoration hosted by leading ecologist Dr Judy Webb.

In August, Dr Ruth Feber will lead a specialist walk focusing on Hairstreak butterflies at Park Farm, with two events in September closing the programme: Wytham Woods and Climate Change, examining how warming temperatures are reshaping local ecosystems, and Park Farm Nature Day, a family-friendly celebration with walks, talks and wildlife activities.

Please note that only some of the events are open to the public, while others are tailored for local residents and community groups.

Participants are advised to check individual listings for meeting points, timings and further information. Tickets will be released via Eventbrite and announced on the Wytham Woods website closer to each event.
