Update - 14 January 2025: please be aware that due to exceptional demand, all available places have now been reserved at both the events below. Because of this, Charlie will be repeating the notebook-making workshop in due course, as well as organising several more writing workshops over the course of her residency. More information will appear here when it is available.
Join us for the first two workshops with Wytham Woods’ new Writer in Residence, Dr Charlie Lee-Potter. Charlie is a writer, academic and multi-media artist.
During the first introductory session on Friday 24 January from 10.30am to 12.30pm, we’ll learn how to fold and stitch handmade notebooks to use for our creative writing projects.
The following week, at the same time on Friday 31 January, we’ll take an acoustic walk in the woods and using a series of prompts and examples, respond in writing to the sounds we hear. You can opt for either session, or both of them.
Do wear comfortable clothes and suitable footwear. Please bring something to write with (and a separate notebook if you’d rather save your handmade ones). The event is intended for adults and is suitable for all, even those who’ve never tried bookbinding before. Full instructions and materials will be provided.
Both events are free, but please reserve your place with Eventbrite using the following links:
How to get there
We’ll meet at the Wytham Chalet for both events. The Chalet is a 20-minute walk from the main Wytham Woods car park at Sawmill Yard so please allow time to get there for the start of the session at 10.30am.
Take the tarmac road through Gibson’s Gate and follow it to the top of the hill. The Chalet is the three-storey building on the right. Charlie will meet you outside.
