The Wytham Chalet is a recently refurbished hunting lodge in the middle of the Woods, and acts as a hub for researchers and visiting groups. Its rooms are available for hire for various events and uses – please see below for details regarding the rooms.
The building and site are perfect for hosting Away Days, as we are a short drive from Oxford City Centre and yet the Chalet is surrounded by our 1000 acres of woodland. Subject to the time of year and availability of the Wytham Woods researchers, we can arrange group experiences such as tailored guided walks, citizen science activities, or guest lectures and demonstrations. Previously groups have enjoyed getting up close to bat boxes (with bats in residence!) and using our Ash Dieback App. We are able to liaise with our local caterers on the behalf of visitors, and our modernised Chalet kitchen is also available for all visiting groups to use. Facilities include: oven, microwave, dishwasher, fridge-freezer and provision of mugs, plates, bowls and cutlery.
There are two accessible toilets on the ground floor of the Chalet, and a ground floor meeting room and bedroom. Should you have any access concerns please do get in touch with us to discuss your requirements.
The newly refurbished chalet was a great choice for running our training course for early career researchers this summer. The setting in the heart of Wytham Woods is unbeatable and offers lots of opportunities for learning outside that other venues don’t. We found the inside spaces including the kitchen and bathrooms to be well equipped, modern and comfortable. We would highly recommend the use of the chalet to anyone. - EarthWatch Institute, 2019
