Oxford Green Estate launches programme of events for 2026
We are pleased to announce a new, wide-ranging programme of public talks and guided walks for the year ahead, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to explore some of Oxford’s most important natural landscapes and historic habitats, while hearing directly from the experts that care for them.
Running from May through September, the series brings together leading researchers, conservationists and land managers to share insights into woodlands, meadows, wetlands and urban green spaces. The events are organised by the Oxford Green Estate team in partnership with community groups, resident associations and the University’s Sustainability department.
Please note that only some of the events are open to the public, while others are tailored for local residents and community groups.
Participants are advised to check individual listings for meeting points, timings and further information. Tickets will be released via Eventbrite and announced on the Wytham Woods website closer to each event. The full event programme can be found below:
Wytham Woods Ecology
Wednesday 6 May at 2pm
An insight into the history, ecology, management and research of the most researched area of woodland in the world. Over seven thousand years if woodland history and over 1600 research papers based upon work in the Woods. Two hours. Host by Dr Keith Kirby

Wytham Badgers
Wednesday 6 May and Thursday 7 May, from 7pm to 9.30pm
A chance to learn about and hopefully see these elusive woodland creatures. No children under the age of eight. Bring a blanket if it is a cold evening. Please be prepared to be still and quiet for over an hour.

Wytham Fens
Saturday May 16 at 2pm
The Wytham fens are over 7,500 years old. Through their pollen records we have gained an insight into how Wytham has changed since the last Ice Age. Come along and learn more about this fragile and threatened habitat. Host by Dr Curt Lamberth.

A chance to learn about the pollinators at Park Farm and Wytham Woods. A two hour leisurely walk identifying bees and butterflies. No experience required. Host by Emma Eatough, Biodiversity Manager at Oxford University.

Wytham Woods Climate Change
Wednesday 16 September at 10am
Climate change is playing an ever-increasing role in changing the species we see around us. Come along and gain an insight into the changing fauna and flora of Wytham Woods. Two hours walk.
