Nature Learning Morning for Educators

Saturday 21 October 2023 10am-12:30pm

Increase your confidence in enthusing young people about nature. Run by Wytham Woods educators and researchers, with Bloom Education.

Most of us have grown up without much nature education. We know that it's good for young people (and for us!), to spend time in nature, and to "connect" with nature by learning about it. But HOW can we support that if we don't feel confident in our own knowledge? Can we answer their questions? Can we identify risks? Where do we start?

This event is aimed at building your skills and your confidence. We'll give you a bit of nature knowledge (enough to show off with), some fun stories about some of the species we encounter to whet your appetite to find out more, an appreciation of the key risks to avoid on nature walks, and most importantly, some really fun ways to learn alongside your young people, using apps, and cheap and easily available resources.

We will also spend time with Jane from Bloom Education who has some simple techniques for engaging people with nature through the senses, a lovely approach that you can use in any school or park, to get everyone focusing on what is around them and tapping into the huge benefits that time in nature can bring.

If you have any questions, do get in touch. This is the first of what we hope will become regular opportunities for people in our local community to gradually improves their nature knowledge and their enthusiasm to pass that knowledge on.
